After dominating the market share in the smartwatch category, Apple which has sold an estimated 12 million units of its smartwatch Apple Watch in the first year of its availability with about 61% share. This feat was achieved even without the presence of 3G and 4G connectivity in the smartwatch in comparison to other smartwatches from their competitors.
The expected successor to the smartwatch, the Apple Watch 2 is however being rumuored to come with built-in mobile connectivity support. With this, you’ll be able to use it for certain tasks even without having your iPhone nearby tethered to the watch. The next Apple Watch is also expected to receive a faster processor according to the reports.
As for cellular connectivity, it is certain that Apple is already lagging behind as other Android Wear devices (primarily from LG) as well as Samsung’s Gear line of smartwatches have had this feature over the past few years, so it makes sense for Apple to go the same route.
The beauty of this addition is that you can enjoy the usage of your smartwatch even without having a smartphone around you.
However, information is still scanty as to when Apple might launch its next wearable though it is suspicious that it might be during the fall event during which the iPhone 7 pair is introduced.
