The newly released Samsung Gear VR is a mobile virtual reality device developed by Samsung Electronics and powered by Oculus VR, an American virtual reality technology company. It is a compatible Samsung Galaxy device and is compatible with Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S6/S6 Edge and is sold separately.
It acts as the headset’s display and processor while the Gear VR unit itself contains the highfield of view lenses as well as a custom IMU which connects to the smartphone via micro-USB. Its display has a Super AMOLED display, wide field of view, precise head-tracking and low latency brings reality to the virtual.
The Gear VR headset includes a touchpad, back button on the side and has a proximity sensor to detect when the headset is on. The touchpad and button allow for a standard minimum input capability for users to interact with the virtual environments.
When you connect the Samsung smartphone to the Gear VR headset it automatically launches the Oculus Store, where you can find and download videos, apps, and games designed to work with the virtual reality experience.
The gadget’s weight is 318g without the smartphone and has the same charge port as a mobile phone, micro USB.
